First New Zealand Certificate awarded in Packaging
On 1 January 2014, Competenz launched a new suite of training qualifications known as ‘New Zealand Certificates’ across the packaging industry. These certificates replace all ‘National Certificates’.
Last week, Competenz awarded the first ever ‘New Zealand Certificate’ for a packaging qualification to Paula Richards from Orora Group, Christchurch. Paula completed the New Zealand Certificate in Fibreboard Packaging, Level 3.
Orora is a global packaging manufacturer offering a broad range of fibre, metal and glass packaging and packaging-related services, including packaging for food, industrial applications, recycling services and distribution. The company is based in North America and Australasia.
Orora Christchurch currently has seven employees in training with Competenz, completing qualifications including print (sheet-fed), business administration and, of course, packaging.
The Fibreboard Packaging qualifications were developed following an industry needs analysis undertaken in 2011/2012 where the unit standards, qualifications and training requirements for this sector were reviewed.
“The review resulted in new qualifications and more flexible training programmes to reflect the needs of the industry, while keeping abreast of technology advancements,” says Industry Manager, Patricia Brooking.
